Playa del Rey is a small beachside community technically located within the city limits of Los Angeles.
Playa del Rey is a small beachside community technically located within the city limits of Los Angeles. Primarily a residential area, some businesses, restaurants, and office space are located along major thoroughfares within the community (city) limits and it is located directly north of the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
A few highlights of the community are the Ballona Wetlands Ecological Reserve that comprises its northern boundary and its close proximity to the beautiful Loyola Marymount University Campus just to the east in the community of Westchester. Playa del Rey is also located right next to Dockweiler Beach and the northwest corner of the community has a flourishing restaurant scene.
Playa del Rey is located within the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). The two primary public schools receive generally positive reviews. As of 2014, the Wiseburn School District allows parents in Playa del Rey to send their children to Wiseburn schools on inter-district transfers. In addition, there are a few private schools within the area.
